BIOGRAPHY

box camera portrait_edited.jpg

Bibi’s work combines writing, printmaking and textiles to explore themes of desire, loss and transformation. Diaristic text undergoes various processes such as scanning or etching before being printed onto paper and  fabric, to distort and temper their personal story informed by the queer experience. Fabric is often sourced from charity shops as a way of incorporating other people’s histories and relationships to fabric into their work, and because it is a sustainable way to create.

Bibi uses drypoint printing and textiles to express themes of connection and touch and by posing their writing in different forms, they can read into their own feelings from the past as they continue to grow and change. Fabric by nature is malleable, and it is this quality that is especially important to them- the fluidity and transformative nature of fabric lets them use the medium to speak for their experiences and emphasise these qualities in their work.
